Waste to Energy (W2E) Project

Project Details

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), covering 196.23 square kilometers and home to approximately 6.1 million people, faces growing challenges in managing municipal solid waste (MSW), with daily waste generation reaching around 3,433 tons. The current reliance on the Aminbazar landfill has led to environmental and health concerns, including methane emissions, groundwater contamination, and air pollution.

To address this, DNCC is constructing a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) Power Plant at Bongaon Union in Savar Upazila. The plant will process 3,000 metric tons of waste daily, converting MSW into 42.5 MW of electricity. This project aims to reduce landfill dependency, generate cleaner energy, and promote sustainable urban waste management in Dhaka, which is critical for mitigating the impacts of rapid urbanization and population growth.
