Purbachal New Town - Electrical Power Distribution System

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), acting on empowerment by Govt. of Bangladesh has overall responsibility to develop Purbhanchal New Town, spread over approx. 26 square KM near Dhaka. As stated by 4th Korea-Bangladesh Joint Public-Private Partnership (PPP) meeting, Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND), Seoul has secured the priority rights for the Bangladesh Purbachal New Town Power Distribution Network Construction Operation Project. On that part KIND has nominated GS E & C, Korea for design, construction, operations & maintenance of Electrical Power distribution systems within the township, “Purbachal New Town” who has expertise in Engineering, Procurement & Construction of Power Distribution system. GS E & C, Korea has appointed DNV Kore to carry out the feasibility study of this project.

As per plan, electrical power from National Grid owned and operated by Power Grid Company of Bangladesh will supply power to the nominated Power Distribution Service PPA Contractor (Operator)’s 7 numbers of substations and supply power to various types of consumers within Purbachal New Town. Power Grid Company will handle 230 kV and above and DESCO will be responsible for 132 KV and below. Under this power distribution project, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Electrical Power Distribution System including Substations up to Consumers” at Purbachal New Town, Bangladesh is needer. As per ECR 2023, EIA needs a TOR from DOE and approval of TOR needs scoping study. This IEE study is done for TOR approval from DOE to determine the scope of EIA study. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will include all substations of distribution system, power transmission lines from grid substation to the DESCO substation and power distribution lines from the DESCO substations to consumers located within the township.
