Project Details
BEZA is particularly focusing on a new 'industrial city' development of approximately 33,800 acres in Mirsharai and Sitakunda Upazila of Chattogram district and Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district named National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). BEZA has already prepared a master plan for the BSMSN. The Master Plan sets out parameters and principles for land uses, access and transport networks, precinct boundaries and characteristics, zoning and permitted uses, development guidelines, and guiding policies and environmental rules to follow during the implementation of the master plan. It is expected that NSEZ, the first planned industrial city in the country, will pave the way for establishing a truly world-class business and industrial center. The industrial city would contain a seaport, rail connectivity, marine drive, residential area, hospital, school, university, etc. Potential investment sectors include garments & garments supporting industries, agro-products and agro-processing products, integrated textiles, leather and leather products, shipbuilding, motorbike assembly, food & beverage, paint & chemical, paper & products, plastics light engineering (including auto-parts and bicycles), pharmaceutical products, power solar park, etc.
The NSEZ Development Project under the Private Investment and Digital Entrepreneurship Project (PRIDE) of BEZA funded by the World Bank plans to undertake a Regional Environmental and Social Assessment (RESA) for implementation of the master plan of BSMSN to examine associated E&S risks and impacts in the proposed industrial city and its area of influence (henceforth mentioned as the 'Region').
